Where to find your FIT file: step by step for Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, Strava and more

You've ridden your test, your legs are still burning, and now the upload asks for a FIT file. This is exactly where many riders get stuck. Not because it's difficult, but because most devices and apps hide the file well.

This article shows you where to find it, step by step for every major device and app. Usually it takes less than a minute.

What is a FIT file?

FIT is the format in which almost every bike computer, sports watch and indoor app records a ride. The file captures, second by second, what happened during your ride: power, heart rate, cadence, speed, altitude and, if available, GPS.

That second-by-second data is exactly what we need. Our analysis finds the maximal efforts in your ride, judges each one on its own and calculates Critical Power, W′ and every other value in your report from them. A screenshot or a summary with averages isn't enough for that.

Before you start

Take the original file. If an app offers several formats, choose FIT or “Original”. GPX and TCX are conversions that leave data out depending on the app, and our upload doesn't accept them.

No power meter, no watts. The file only contains power if a power meter or a smart trainer was connected to your device during the ride. Estimated power, like Zwift's “zPower” on a trainer without power measurement, isn't good enough for a diagnostic.

No need to unzip. A .zip or .fit.gz file, the way Garmin or TrainingPeaks deliver it, uploads as it is. Each file can be up to 4 MB, and you can upload up to 5 files per test.

The whole ride. Upload the ride that contains your test, not a cut-out: we find the efforts ourselves. If you split the Comprehensive Test over two days, upload both files together. All files of one upload count as one test.

Garmin

The most reliable way is Garmin Connect in a browser on your computer. The Garmin Connect app on your phone has no export.

  1. Sign in at connect.garmin.com.
  2. Open “Activities” on the left and click the title of your test ride.
  3. Click the gear icon at the top right.
  4. Choose “Export File” (in some versions it's called “Export Original”).

You get a .zip file. Upload it as it is, there's nothing to unzip.

Via USB: Connect your Edge or watch with a data cable and open the folder Garmin › Activity. Every ride is stored there as a .fit. On a Mac, newer devices don't show up as a drive. Then take the route via Garmin Connect.

Wahoo

With Wahoo you get the file in the app on your phone. Which app depends on your device: ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3 use the Wahoo app, the older ELEMNT, BOLT and ROAM units the ELEMNT app.

Wahoo app

  1. Open the “History” tab and tap your test ride.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right.
  3. Choose “Share activity”, then “Download .fit activity”.
  4. Save the file to “Files” or email it to yourself.

ELEMNT app

  1. Open “History” and select your ride.
  2. Tap the upload icon (iPhone), or the three dots and “Upload workout” (Android).
  3. Choose “Share file to…” and send the file by email or to another app.

Tip: In the Wahoo app you can connect Email or Dropbox under “Authorized apps” and switch on “Auto-share”. Then you get the .fit automatically after every ride. Rides from Wahoo SYSTM land in the same account: you'll find them in the Wahoo app under “History” and download them the same way.

Zwift

The quickest way is the website. It works for every device, Apple TV included.

  1. Sign in at zwift.com and open your feed (zwift.com/feed).
  2. Choose “JUST ME”, so only your own activities show.
  3. Click your test ride.
  4. Click the cog icon and choose “DOWNLOAD FIT FILE”.

Straight from your computer: Zwift also saves every ride locally. On a Mac you'll find it under Documents › Zwift › Activities. On Windows, rides since February 2026 are under AppData › Local › Zwift › Activities in your user folder (AppData is hidden), older ones under Documents › Zwift › Activities.

Important: If you ride a trainer without power measurement, Zwift estimates your watts from speed (“zPower”). For a test you need a smart trainer or a power meter.

Strava

Strava gives you the original file exactly as your device uploaded it. If your ride came from Garmin, Wahoo or Zwift, that is a .fit. The export only works on the website, not in the app.

  1. Open your test ride on strava.com.
  2. Click the menu with the three dots (“More”).
  3. Choose “Export Original”.

Shortcut: Add /export_original to the address of your activity, for example strava.com/activities/123456789/export_original.

Don't choose “Export GPX”: that file is a conversion, it stays empty for indoor rides without GPS, and our upload doesn't accept it.

TrainingPeaks

TrainingPeaks also gives you the file in its original format. It works in the browser on trainingpeaks.com.

  1. Click your test ride in the calendar to open its Quick View.
  2. Click “Files”.
  3. Click “Download” next to the file.

The file comes as a .zip. You can upload that directly too.

Hammerhead Karoo

  1. Sign in at dashboard.hammerhead.io.
  2. Click “Rides” on the left.
  3. Click “…” next to your ride and choose “Download FIT”.

Your Karoo has to have uploaded the ride first. Until then it doesn't show up in the dashboard.

COROS

With COROS you export a single ride in the app on your phone. That goes for the watches and for the Dura bike computer.

  1. In the COROS app, open the “Activities” page and tap your test ride.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right.
  3. Choose “Export Data”, then “.FIT”.
  4. Send the file to yourself by email or AirDrop, or save it to “Files”.

Polar

Polar Flow in the browser exports as FIT. In the app on your phone it doesn't work.

  1. Sign in at flow.polar.com and open the “Diary”.
  2. Click your training session.
  3. Open “Export” at the top right and choose “FIT”.

Suunto

With Suunto it only works in the Suunto app.

  1. Open the “Calendar” in the bottom bar and select your workout.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right.
  3. Choose “Export as FIT file” (iPhone) or “Download FIT file” (Android).
  4. Save the file or share it by email.

MyWhoosh

You'll find the files on the MyWhoosh website, not in the app.

  1. Sign in at mywhoosh.com and open your profile.
  2. Go to “Activities”, to the “ACTIVITY FILES” section.
  3. Download your test ride as a .fit.

ROUVY

  1. On riders.rouvy.com, open the training calendar or “View Past Activities”.
  2. Click your ride, then its title, to open the detail page.
  3. Click “EXPORT”, next to “SHARE”.

TrainerRoad

In the browser or in the app on your computer. The phone apps can't download the file.

  1. Open your ride: in the browser on trainerroad.com, or in the computer app under the “Career” tab.
  2. Click the “Download” arrow at the top right, below the workout profile.

intervals.icu

  1. Open your activity.
  2. Switch to the “Data” tab.
  3. Under “Files”, download the original file.

Important: Rides that reached intervals.icu via Strava have no original file there. Get those straight from Strava or from your device.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch Workout app doesn't write a FIT file. Since watchOS 10 the watch can pair with Bluetooth power meters, but the data ends up in Apple Health. An extra app like HealthFit turns it into a FIT file there: select the workout and export it by email or to iCloud Drive. If you have the choice, use a bike computer or an indoor app for the test: they give you the file directly.

Other bike computers

Bryton, Sigma, Lezyne, iGPSPORT and most other bike computers record in FIT as well. Three routes almost always work:

  • Via USB: connect the device to your computer with a data cable and copy the newest .fit file from its storage. A Lezyne, for example, shows up as a drive, and on a Sigma ROX the file sits right in the device storage.
  • Via the manufacturer's app: open the ride and look for “Export”, “Share” or “FIT”. In the Bryton Active app, for example, it's under the three dots at the top right, “Export FIT File”.
  • Via Strava or TrainingPeaks: if your device is connected, get the original file there, as described above.

Now upload it

  1. Open the upload and choose your test: Quick Test or Comprehensive Test.
  2. Drag the file into the field, or click it to choose the file.
  3. Check the efforts we found in your ride, and confirm them.

Not working?

  • No power data: then no power meter or smart trainer was connected during the ride. Without watts we can't analyse a test.
  • File too large: take the single ride, not a whole data archive like Strava's account download. A normal ride is well under 4 MB.
  • Your app only offers GPX or TCX: get the file via Strava or TrainingPeaks if your device syncs there, or straight from the device via USB.
  • No file at all: choose “Manual Entry” when you upload, and enter the average power and the duration of your efforts. Most training apps show both for the laps of your test.
